1. Family Fun Day at Saxon Woods (7/16)

2. Celebrate African Dance, Drumming, & Storytelling (7/20)

Chiku Awali African Dance, Arts & Culture, Inc. will perform, tell stories and teach through West African dance. The audience will be encouraged to join in the participatory dances. Enjoy an evening filled with wonder beginning at 7 p.m.

Local baseball historian Bob Mayer will discuss the impact on and by African Americans armed with memorabilia and black and white photos. Mayer is a member of the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) and the Baseball Hall of Fame. He often focuses on the teams and players on the Wallkill B.B.C. and New York State Homeopathic Asylum teams. They played in Middletown, NY between 1866 and 1908. Mayer also focuses on the Black Barnstorming teams that came through lower New York prior to 1900. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Middletown Historical Society and is a past President and Treasurer of the Peekskill Museum. The lecture begins at 7 p.m. and is also available virtually.

  • Bastille Day Sunset Jazz (New Rochelle): Celebrate Bastille Day a day late with a sunset jazz concert overlooking the Sound. Performers include Jared Pauley on piano, Carl Bartlett Jr. on sax; Paul Reily on bass, and Brian Carter on drums. A free event, it has limited space so head over early. The concert begins at 6 p.m. The park will be closed to all but the concertgoers. Reserving a bagged dinner does not guarantee entry.

  • Amber Beach Performs at the Bean Runner (Peekskill): Amber Beach will perform at the Bean Runner Café beginning at 3 p.m. She tells her stories through song using guitar strings and vocals to touch heart strings.   • Park Cleanup (Rye): Join volunteers at the Edith G. Read Natural Park and Wildlife Sanctuary at 10 a.m. to help keep the park clean. With all the extra visitors at Rye Playland and Beach this time of year, the Sanctuary always needs some TLC to keep all the flora and fauna safe. Dress appropriately for ticks and poison ivy. Trash grabbers and cans will be provided.
