🎵 PRELUDE: Suspicious Minds

Elvis Aaron Presley (January 8, 1935 – August 16, 1977) was an American singer and actor. Dubbed the “King of Rock and Roll”, he is regarded as one of the most significant cultural icons of the 20th century.

American songwriter Mark James wrote and recorded “Suspicious Minds” in 1968. After this recording failed commercially, it was cut by Elvis Presley becoming a number one song in 1969, and one of the most memorable hits of Presley’s career.

If you haven’t seen the show yet, the Chappaqua Performing Arts Center continues its run of The Tony® Award-winning smash-hit musical Million Dollar Quartet until May 22. “On December 4, 1956, four young musicians — Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins — gathered at Sun Records in Memphis for what would be one of the greatest rock ‘n’ roll jam sessions ever.”

🔢 BY THE NUMBERS

📅 FLASHBACK: circa 1850

Circa 1850 photo of the real Ichabod Crane. Everyone knows Ichabod Crane from the famous The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, but not many know he was a real person. Born in 1787 in Elizabethtown, NJ, Crane was a military officer for the US military fighting in the War of 1812 and the Mexican-American war, eventually becoming a colonel. It was at Fort Pike in Lake Ontario, where Washington Irving was also stationed, that the two supposedly met and Washington Irving would get the idea for the name of his character. While Crane never actually traveled to Westchester’s Sleepy Hollow, Washington Irving lived very close by in Tarrytown in the home he called “Sunnyside.” Irving’s story made Sleepy Hollow world-famous and bestowed upon it its reputation as one of “the most haunted places in the world.” —MADDIE STONE
