Dr. Miriam Levitt Flisser also enters fray

Hey Examiner Members,

While I might have waxed poetic yesterday on the binding power of local youth sports, I figured I’d switch gears today to another unifying subject — local politics!

Ah, yes, nothing like local elections to bring our communities together.

Seriously, though, it’s more important than ever to engage in civic affairs.

Because of all the divisiveness, it’s critical to elect local leaders who embody the values you want to see advanced in our region.

We have some primaries coming up in our coverage area, and I wanted to share three of our articles with you.

While I’ll get to our coverage in a moment on the heated Maloney versus Biaggi race, I also wanted to flag Daily News reporting from earlier this week. The piece explores how Biaggi is calling on Maloney to “condemn a swell of outside cash and a ‘pro-Trump’ police-backed Super PAC that recently spent hundreds of thousands in support of the sitting congressman.”

And here’s our coverage of that race: https://www.theexaminernews.com/maloney-looks-to-fend-off-biaggi-challenge-in-17th-congressional-district/

Meanwhile, a number of Republicans have set their sights on District 17. As Examiner Editor-in-Chief Martin Wilbur notes, congressional mid-term elections are often a boon for the party in the minority. The local GOP definitely smells opportunity. Here’s our report: https://www.theexaminernews.com/republicans-set-sights-on-nomination-for-17th-district/

There’s also an interesting race shaping up in District 16. A couple years ago, Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-Yonkers) ousted veteran Democratic congressman Eliot Engel, a huge win for the more left-leaning wing of the party. The rookie congressman is trying to fend off a busy field of competitors in the Aug. 23 primary. Here’s that coverage: https://www.theexaminernews.com/bowman-gashi-parker-vie-for-16th-district-democratic-nod/

It’s worth noting that a press release just hit our inboxes stating that Dr. Miriam Levitt Flisser, a Westchester pediatrician, medical director of Bronxville schools and former Bronxville mayor, has “accepted the nomination of the Westchester Republican County Committee.” We’ll have to report the details out further.

If you vote in primary elections, for Democrats or Republicans, be sure to read up on the races. And, of course, stay tuned now through early November for the big upcoming fall general elections.

Best,

Adam
