Peter HughesPeter W. Hughes, a lifelong Mount Kisco resident, died peacefully at home on Feb. 22. He was 89.

Peter was born on July 5, 1931, to the late Victor A. and Ann Finnegan Hughes. He married his wife, Frances Didio, on May 23, 1959.

Peter is survived by his children, Roseann Hagen (John), Peter (Patty), Andrew and David (Jennifer); his grandchildren, Peter (Jody) Hagen, Cathy (Dave) DiRienzo, Elizabeth Hagen, Lauren, Jackie and Brenna Hughes and Kayla and Tanner More; great-grandchildren Eric, Mikayla and Ryan Hagen and Julianna and Dominic DiRienzo; his twin brother, Paul J. Hughes; and many nieces and nephews. Peter was predeceased by his wife, Frances, sister Mary Arbitrio and brother David Hughes.

Peter spent 39 years working for New York Telephone and retired in 1989. He was a 69-year member of the Independent Fire Company, holding the rank of captain and president. He was chief of the Mount Kisco Volunteer Fire Department from 1982 to 1984. He was also a member of the Westchester County Fireman’s Association, the New York State Chief’s Association, Westchester County Parade Judges and was a 66-year member of American Legion Post 136 in Mount Kisco. Pete also coached Mount Kisco Little League football.

The family received friends at Cassidy-Flynn Funeral Home in Mount Kisco on Feb. 25. A funeral Mass was held on Feb. 26 at St. Francis Church in Mount Kisco.
