One-Party Rule Has Hurt Yorktown By Losing Focus on Local Matters

As a concerned citizen of Yorktown, I am writing to voice my growing concerns over the danger of one-party rule in our town government. With all current Town Board members being of the same party, we have seen an alarming lack of checks and balances, as well as the prioritization of partisan interests over the needs of our community.

Our current town leadership has not been receptive nor responsive to voices from our community. Rather than focusing on core local issues like crumbling infrastructure, mindful development and sustainable energy policies, members of the Town Board have resorted to echoing national partisan narratives to appeal to and rile up their supporters with matters well outside the scope of town governance.

Regardless of one’s political affiliation, it has become clear that the current one-sided leadership is not serving the best interests of Yorktown residents. The current Town Board seems more concerned with perpetuating its power rather than being responsible stewards for the community’s well-being.

That is why this upcoming special election on Apr. 16 is so crucial. We need a strong, reasoned and knowledgeable voice on the Town Board. We need someone who will be responsive to ALL of Yorktown’s residents, not just those in the majority party’s inner circle. A candidate like Jann Mirchandani has the experience and skill to bring those essential checks and balances to the Yorktown Town Board.

I urge everyone to make their voices heard. Let’s inject some balanced decision-making into our town. Let’s choose leaders who will prioritize Yorktown’s needs over partisan posturing. Our community deserves better than the taxation without representation that we have had for the past four years.
