I write to respond to two previous letter writers, who assert that Assemblywoman Dana Levenberg should focus on more important matters than renaming Donald J. Trump State Park. She is doing exactly that.

Since taking office four months ago, Levenberg has sponsored 16 bills, one of which has already been signed into law by the governor. She is a co-sponsor of 178 more. Looking at her prime-sponsored bills, several directly address concerns specific to the municipalities in her district. Others are intended to protect key constituencies, such as a bill (A5364) to protect volunteer firefighters who become disabled due to lung illnesses. She has also taken up two of former assemblywoman Sandy Galef’s ethics bills, aiming to ensure that legislators are not able to take unfair advantage of their positions for personal gain.

Levenberg is also working hard to get funding for improvements to our state roads, a matter on which she updates the community regularly. Most urgently, she is leading the charge to stop the dumping of radioactive wastewater into the Hudson, alongside state Sen. Peter Harckham.

As a volunteer in her office, I can personally attest that these issues and many others – environmental protection, economic development, physical and mental health and social justice – occupy the overwhelming majority of the assemblywoman’s time.
Levenberg took on the Trump Park renaming bill because of constituent feedback. Prior to the announcement of the legislation, the office had received unsolicited comments from residents troubled by driving past signs for the park. The bill does not receive more attention than others in her office; it simply gets more attention in the press because of the Trump name.

I encourage all of us to seek authoritative, factual information about our representatives.
