Business Profile: Flooring Liquidators, Cortlandt
Thornwood resident Richie Bedus opened Flooring Liquidators in Cortlandt three months ago, but the business has long been a passion for him.
“I’ve done it since I was a kid,” Bedus said last week.
Bedus utilizes his passion to his customers.
“We offer all sorts of flooring – wood, tile, linoleum,” Bedus explained, adding carpeting is also available.
“There’s a lot of people we see that are just buying houses and they’re just redoing their floors,” Bedus said. “Some people know what they want (but) some people need help and that’s what we’re here for. We have a lot of product out there.”
Most of the flooring displayed in the showroom is in stock, Bedus said. If the flooring is in stock installation can be completed the next day — within a few hours if it is carpeting — and a whole day if it is wood, he said. If the flooring is not in stock, it will be ordered and be available within a week.
Bedus said he personally specializes in working in commercial buildings. He oversees his employees when they install flooring in commercial buildings.
Bedus’ Route 6 business, near ShopRite, is located at the site of a former produce and fish market. It took about four months and much money to complete the renovations, he said.
“It’s a great location,” Bedus said. “There’s a lot of traffic.”
Though business has been good so far, Bedus said he has made an effort to familiarize local residents with his establishment because it is tough to spread word of mouth. He has placed ads on television and in the local weekly newspaper and will hold a grand opening ceremony sometime in March.
Bedus said his customers come from all over the area, including northern Westchester and Putnam. “They’re really coming from everywhere,” he said.
The term liquidators refers to “the tons of material” housed in the showroom, Bedus noted.
