How you treat an injury can impact a person’s life for the long term that is why AON Physical Therapy & Wellness takes a different approach with its clients than traditional physical therapy centers.

“We offer a different quality of care,” said Brian Kelly, who along with his partner Lee Day owns AON Physical Therapy & Wellness. “We do not just treat an injury. We treat more of a kinetic chamber rather than just a simple injury. We take a global look at a person.”

AON handles athletic, orthopedic and neurologic problems.

At AON the therapists do not just treat the part of your body that is injured, they see the global aspect of the movement patterns and postures that effect one’s spine or extremity function. They also consider things like nutrition and a person’s mental and emotional well-being.

“We believe that a good majority of your rehabilitation is mental as well as physical,” said Kelly.

Last week AON held the grand opening of its Mahopac facility, the sixth location for the growing company. AON was started on September 1, 2007 with two locations—Brewster and White Plains.

Day was formerly part of another company that had offices in Brewster and White Plains.

“In the other company my partner and I had 36 locations throughout New York,” said Day who has been a physical therapist for 28 years. “I wanted a buy out from the company and part of my buy out was that the Brewster and White Plains offices went to me.”

Kelly worked for the other company at the Brewster location.

“I turned to Brian and said let’s start our own company,” said Day. In the past five years AON has expanded to Somers and Connecticut.

The duo decided to open up a Mahopac location after they realized the number of clients they had at the Brewster and Somers locations that hailed from Mahopac.

“We realized that there was a need here,” said Day.  “We have developed good relationships with the doctors in Brewster and Somers and those same doctors treat people from the Mahopac community. We heard there was only one other physical therapist in town and the rumor was that he was going to retire. So it made sense for us to open up a location in Mahopac.”

The therapists and technicians at AON are already working with the local high school and many of the young athletes.

“One of the things we like to focus on with the athletes is prevention,” Kelly said.

The new Mahopac facility, which is located at 953 Route 6, is open and friendly. In addition to the treatment areas the place is filled with state of the art fitness equipment to provide comprehensive care that can be tailored to a customized home exercise plan.

There are three physical therapists on staff at the Mahopac location that are all knowledgeable in an extensive array of care—from pediatric care and aquatic therapy to hand therapy and sports specific training. They also have a network of other clinicians and physicians to consult with to make sure a patient is getting optimal and comprehensive rehabilitation, according to AON’s website, aonpt.com.
