White Plains Seeks Members for Inter-Generational Program

We are part of The Trust Project

White Plains is looking for senior citizens interested in sharing their experiences and participating in ongoing and planned activities with the city’s youth as part of the Inter-Generational Program created by a partnership between the Department of Recreation and Parks Senior Program and the Youth Bureau. The new program will give both younger and older residents a chance to get to know each other by sharing their similarities and differences and learn from one another while participating in fun and interactive activities.

“The benefits of inter-generational programs are many. For youth, the program brings an opportunity to build trust and a comfort level with adults and it provides youth with positive role models. For the adults, the program provides a meaningful opportunity to give back to the community in a positive way. A natural outgrowth for both the adults and youth in the program is that the interactions often broaden ones views and perspective on life and the world we live in,” a press release from White Plains’ Recreation and Parks Department states.

The inter-generational group will meet on Wednesdays from 3:15 to 4:30 p.m. at the City of White Plains Recreation and Parks Community Center, 65 Mitchell Place. There is no cost to participate. Bus transportation will be provided to seniors at the end of the day. The kick off meeting will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 9.  Call 914-422-1255 to register.
