🎵 PRELUDE: Rhapsody in Blue
Originally written for solo piano, Rhapsody in Blue is George Gershwin’s 1924 musical composition that combines both classical and jazz elements. The rhapsody is one of Gershwin’s most recognizable creations and a key composition that defined the Jazz Age. Gershwin’s piece inaugurated a new era in America’s musical history, established Gershwin’s reputation as an eminent composer, and eventually became one of the most popular of all concert works.
Rhapsody in Blue premiered during a snowy afternoon on Tuesday, February 12, 1924, at Aeolian Hall, Manhattan in a program entitled “An Experiment in Modern Music.”
The Stamford Symphony presents Rhapsody in Blue in a musical program called “The Roaring Twenties” on Saturday, February 26 at 7:30 p,m. Tickets are still available for this special concert which will take place at The Palace Theatre in Stamford.
