The Crusaders storm the field in celebration after a thrilling overtime win over Xaverian.

Stepinac is heading to the Catholic High School Football League AAA Championship next week after winning a nail-biter over Xaverian Saturday.

The Crusaders, looking for their second straight CHSFL title (they won in AA last year), topped Xaverian 27-21 in overtime Saturday, with Mark White sealing the win with a touchdown run. They’ll play St. Anthony’s next Friday at Mitchel Field in Uniondale.

It will be the second meeting between Stepinac and St. Anthony’s. In October, the Friars snapped the Crusaders’ 16-game winning streak with a 55-29 win at Loucks Field.

Last week, Stepinac beat Holy Cross 34-14 in the quarterfinals.

Editor’s Note: This article previously had the score listed as 27-20.
