‘THE LEGEND’ Showing in Sleepy Hollow

As a newspaper writer, I know how to be brief. But against my better judgment, I sometimes (too often) slip into needless wordiness.

I’m reading a book right now about brevity and figured I’d flex that writing muscle this afternoon for Examiner+.

Research indicates I have less than a second to capture your interest and, if I grab it, only get about 30 seconds of your attention, if I’m lucky.

Thoughtfulness doesn’t require verbosity. But verbosity can interfere with effective communication.

Normally, this writeup would be a 750 to 1,500 word narrative, and include a detailed interview. Today, it’s an approximately 350-word quick hit. (There’s a place for both).

Here you go:

An innovative new adaptation of the Legend of Sleepy Hollow, narrated by the hologram

of Washington Irving, is on stage in Westchester till Oct. 16.

Why to care: With the local performing arts scene battered by COVID since 2020, there are several signals of recent life, and this special show, featuring cirque-style theater, is a unique addition, timed well for the Halloween season. The adaption, titled “THE LEGEND,” commemorates the 200-year anniversary of Irving’s classic, “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.”

The show, created and performed by Westchester Circus Arts, takes place at the Circus Tent on the East Parcel at 60 Continental Street in Sleepy Hollow.

Quick facts, including a fun one:

  • Zoe Heywood — who plays Katrina — is a 3rd-generation circus artist

  • The director of LEGEND is Carlo Pellegrini of Westchester Circus Arts
