Cortlandt Wins Westchester County Water Taste Test

We are part of The Trust Project
There were nine county water districts participating in Tuesday’s blind water taste test in White Plains.

If you were in White Plains Tuesday, you might have taken part in Westchester County’s water tasting  contest. It was a difficult task. Most of the water tasted very much the same. All were clean, crisp, clear and cool, but by the end of the day, Cortlandt, labeled D, was the winner with 45 votes  (22 percent).

It was a blind taste test with nine water districts participating. The runner-up was Greenburgh Consolidated Water District #1, labeled A, with 40 votes, or 20 percent. Elmsford, labeled I, came in third, with 27 votes.

The other participants were labeled as follows in the blind taste test: B – City of White Plains; C – City of Yonkers; E – United Water New Rochelle; F – City of Peekskill ; G – Ossining Village; H – Westchester County District # 3, listed alphabetically by their label letter, not by test ranking.

In past years, the winners were: 2011 – United Water New Rochelle; 2010 – Ossining; 2009 – Yonkers; 2008 – Croton on Hudson; 2007 – Yonkers; 2006 – Croton on Hudson; 2005 – United Water New Rochelle; 2004 – Yonkers; 2003 – Yonkers.
