A stretch of Route 202 is quickly becoming the fast-food capital of Yorktown.

With McDonald’s and Popeye’s already drawing regular customers and a Taco Bell in the works, Wendy’s is now looking to cash in on the cravings of fast-food fans.

The Yorktown Planning Board recently discussed an application for Wendy’s to replace Dunkin’ Donuts and York Pizza in the Staples Plaza.

While some details remain sketchy, Planning Director John Tegeder explained the building would be renovated to expand the seating area for patrons. There will also be a change to the popular drive-thru area and parking configurations.

“At first blush it’s the same use,” Tegeder said. “The difference will be minor but, regardless, it’s something for you to look at.”

Taking a look at the plans will also be the town’s Advisory Board on Architecture and Community Appearance (ABACA) because of the proposed lighting and signature Wendy’s signage.

Planning Board Chairman Richard Fon suggested planners take a “holistic” look at the shopping center and surrounding area with all the changes that have taken place.

“There’s a lot going on in that complex,” Fon remarked.

The building has housed a variety of eateries and businesses over the years, including a fitness center and a bank.

It would be the second Wendy’s restaurant in the region. Wendy’s has been serving customers for many years on Route 6 in Cortlandt in a location once occupied by Roy Rogers.

A second Taco Bell has been approved by the Yorktown Planning Board near CVS on Route 6 in Mohegan Lake.
