Residents in Putnam County will have three opportunities in early June to participate at one of the American Cancer Society’s annual Relay for Life events.

Relay for Life helps raise money to save lives from cancer and remember those who lost their battle with the disease.

On Saturday, June 4, separate Relay for Life fundraisers will be held at Mahopac High School and Brewster High School.

One week later, Relay for Life of Patterson will take place at the Patterson Fire Department.

Kate Corsitto, an American Cancer Society Staff Partner for the three Relay for Life events, shared her personal connection to cancer and reason to Relay.

“I Relay in memory of my dad and my aunt who lost their battles to cancer. I Relay in honor of my dear friend who is currently battling metastatic breast cancer,” she stated. “I fight back each year as a staff partner and as a local fellow Relayer so that one day (I hope in my lifetime) we hear the words, ‘All cancers are cured!’ I Relay with HOPE!”

The Mahopac Relay for Life will be held from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. The opening ceremony kicks off at 11:30 a.m., followed by a complimentary Survivor Luncheon. At 9 p.m., Luminaria Bags will be lit up to honor individuals affected by cancer.
The event is supported by many local community partners including Tompkins Bank, Nuvance Health, the Putnam Hospital Medical Staff, Carmel HamletHub, and the Mahopac School District.

The Brewster Relay for Life will be on the high school track from 5 to 10 p.m. with many of the same activities.

Sponsors include Nuvance Health, Volz Auto, Patterson Auto Body, Brewster HamletHub, and the Brewster School District.

Meanwhile, the Patterson Relay for Life will take place from 3 to 10 p.m. at 12 Burdick Rd.

There will be a special Butterfly Release at 4 p.m., speed trivia with DJ Russ, dance parties and themed laps as participants walk a hand painted track thanks to George Apap Painting.

The event is supported by Nuvance Health, Iron and Wine Restaurant, Carmel HamletHub, and the Patterson Fire Department.
