Peekskill to Celebrate New Year’s Eve with Ball Drop

We are part of The Trust Project

The City of Peekskill will be ringing in 2015 with a new event featuring a ball drop at midnight.

Piggybacking on the success of other municipalities that stage similar New Year’s Eve celebrations, such as the City of White Plains, the idea to host a community gathering was initiated by Mayor Frank Catalina, who is looking forward to what he hopes will become an annual tradition.

“It’s going to be a great night and a great event,” Catalina said. “A lot of people are putting a lot of volunteer time into this.”

The ball drop, coordinated by Peekskill fire officials, will take place in downtown Peekskill across the street from the gazebo on Division Street. A brief special effects pyrotechnical display, launched from the roof of the parking garage near C-Town, will take place a few minutes before 2014 ends.

There will also be music from a DJ and a band that will kick off the festivities at 9 p.m. WHUD is planning a live broadcast with Kacey Morabito.

It is expected that a few street closures will be required shortly before midnight, including Division, Park, Central and James streets.
