Five people were seriously injured in a two-car crash Thursday night in Yorktown where both drivers were charged with driving while intoxicated.

According to Yorktown Police, Adam Kaczor, 19, of Saw Mill River Road, Yorktown, made an improper left turn and failed to yield one-half of the roadway at the intersection of Route 35 and Broad Street at approximately 11:51 p.m.

Further investigation revealed Kaczor and the driver of the other vehicle, Dennis Marralheiro, 35, of Locksley Road, Yorktown, were driving while in an intoxicated condition. The charge against Marralheiro was upgraded to a felony because of a prior DWI conviction within the last 10 years.

Kaczor, Marralheiro and three unidentified 19-year-old passengers in Kaczor’s vehicle were transported to Westchester County Medical Center in Valhalla with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Both vehicles were totaled.

Kaczor and Marralheiro were both arrested at the medical center and issued appearance tickets for January 22 in Yorktown Justice Court.
