Here’s yet another meaningless grid poll that features only programs covered in the Examiner region for the week of Apr. 6.
No.1 SOMERS — With 357 career wins after shutting out Lourdes, 31-0, Tusker boss Tony DeMatteo (3-0 this season) is now eight wins shy of becoming NYS’s all-time leader. Class A Tuskers have outscored first three foes by a combined 87-7.
No.2 BYRAM HILLS — Coach Carp’s Class B Bobcats were set to tangle with Section 9’s Burke Catholic today.
No.3 CARMEL — Coach Cayea’s Class AA Rams (2-1) were simply overwhelmed by West Point-bound Suffern
QB Clevmer Lubin, one of Section’1 finest players of the last decade.
No.4 YORKTOWN — Class A Huskers (1-2) gave Rye fits for a half but needed a near-perfect game to knock off reigning champs.
No.5 BREWSTER — Coach Mulvihill’s Class A Bears (1-2) Bears had Clarkstown South on the ropes but let ‘em off in second half of a 22-19 loss. Bet they wish they had that second half back.
No.6 HEN HUD — Coach John ‘Big Cat’ Catano’s Class B Sailors (2-1) went into hostile territory at P’ville and had their playmakers make the plays. In a season dedicated to Sailor RB/DB Chanse Artope’s dearly departed mom, ya can’t help but root for Hen Hud.
No.7 VALHALLA — Coach Troilo’s Class C Vikings are still the reigning champs last time we checked, so don’t go sleeping on a well-coached team with recent history on its side.
No.8 WHITE PLAINS — Class AA Tigers (1-2) RB Chris McGuire did everything he could but it wasn’t enough in Class AA Tigers’ loss to Scarsdale.
No.9 MAHOPAC — Class A Indians (0-2) are still searching for their first win, which is sort of surprising.
No.10 PLEASANTVILLE — Coach Tony Becerra’s Class B Panthers (2-1) sorta-kinda slept through the first half of their 26-23 loss to Hen Hud, which is something you rarely see from this well-prepped unit.
HM PEEKSKILL — It’s been a few down years at Torpey Field, but Coach Vito DeBellis has the Red Devils scratching and clawing in their refurbished digs.
