We are part of The Trust Project

The towns of Cortlandt and Yorktown orare bracing for Hurricane Sandy with emergency preparedness and supplies for residents.

Residents in Cortlandt can pick up sand bags free of charge from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday behind Charles Cook Pool off Furnace Dock Road. There is a limit of 15 bags per household while supplies last.

Cortlandt will also be opening up an emergency shelter at the Community Center on Westbrook Drive, which has a backup generator.

“We strongly advise that all of our residents remain in their homes during and immediately after the storm for their safety,” said Supervisor Linda Puglisi.

In Yorktown, where town and school officials met with police and emergency responders Friday afternoon to discuss plans for dealing with the storm, dry ice will be made available to residents who might lose power for extended periods.

Con Edison customers can pick up dry ice at the Jefferson Valley Mall. New York State Electric & Gas customers should go to the Triangle Shopping Center.
