Community Center Collects Record Amount of School Supplies

We are part of The Trust Project

The Community Center of Northern Westchester announced it has collected a record amount of school supplies, about 3,500 pounds worth, the most in the program’s 18-year history.

This year the group’s volunteers made a total of 726 bags, 150 for preschoolers, 353 for elementary school students and 347 for secondary school students.

“We anticipate, by the end of the first week of school, almost 1,000 children will have received brand new school supplies from the center,” an announcement from the group stated.

The organization begins collecting school supplies in June and continues through August. The packing starts in July and distribution begins in August.

Those interested in getting involved with the school supply drive or becoming a volunteer at the community center are encouraged to call assistant director Susan Bretti at (914) 232-6572 ext. 105 or email her at sbretti@communitycenternw.org.

The community center, located at 84 Bedford Rd. in Katonah, is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday to Friday, and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.
