Burke Rehab Opens Outpatient Facility in Somers
For nearly 100 years, Burke Rehabilitation Hospital has been helping patients recover from disabling illnesses and injuries at its White Plains campus.
Now, residents in northern Westchester in need of services won’t have to travel as far for care since Burke recently opened an outpatient location on Route 100 in Somers.
Steve Tisser, senior administrator for outpatient services, said Burke had been searching in the Somers area for about three years before settling on the 3,500-square-foot space that features state-of-the-art equipment.
“Finally we were able to find something that worked for us,” Tisser said. “We have so many patients who come from this area. We respond to what our patients are asking for.”
Last year, Burke had 71,000 outpatient visits and approximately 3,600 inpatient visits. Somers is the fifth community outpatient facility operated by Burke. The others are located in Purchase, Mamaroneck, Yonkers and the Bronx.
“Our level of knowledge and individual care is unparalleled,” Tisser said. “It’s the Burke difference. You don’t really know us until you need us.”
Yorktown resident Jill O’Flaherty is the site clinic supervisor for Burke in Somers. She said the community has already embraced the facility, which is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily and may add Saturday hours in the near future.
“Our approach is just a little bit different (than others),” O’Flaherty said. “It’s a way to bring Burke services, which are very high quality, up here. We have a great organization behind us.”
