2013 NWE 0521 Nick BiancoYorktown Councilman Nick Bianco is not happy with the direction of the town under Supervisor Michael Grace and he has decided to do something about it.

The 41-year resident and 16-year Town Board member interviewed with the Democratic Committee Monday night in hopes of gaining its endorsement and a November showdown with Grace, who is in the second year of his first term at the helm and has already been endorsed by the Republican Committee.

“Whatever I have done in my life I’ve always done things to try to make things better,” said Bianco, who is a registered Conservative. “I just don’t think this town needs to go in the direction that Mr. Grace wants to take it. I didn’t want to do this. I was hoping, praying someone else would come forward. I just can’t leave this town the way it’s going. It’s just a horror.”

Bianco, 68, is a retired law enforcement officer who has worked for the last 25 years as a criminal investigator with the Legal Aid Society. He has two grown children and eight grandchildren.

“I’m blessed. I have a great family and a great job. This is not something I was planning to do,” he said. “I have been approached by people in other parties to run and I will pursue some other endorsements. Under Gracetown, there are too many characters and losers coming in and taking over.”

Bianco has been openly critical of what he views as a lack of transparency by the Grace administration. He also differs with Grace’s policies on land use, open space and environmental protection.

“Mike said he would be a part-time supervisor and he has been,” said Bianco, who has two years remaining on his current board term. “I’m going to run a clean campaign. There’s going to be a clear difference. Do you want Yorktown to stay green, or do you want Yorktown to become Yonkers?”

The Democratic Committee was expected to choose its slate Monday night and Bianco was tentatively planning to hold a press conference Tuesday outside Yorktown Town Hall.
