Area School Districts to Receive State Aid Boost

Lakeland Central School DistrictNine school districts in northern Westchester and Putnam counties will receive a total of more than $10 million in state aid under the 2013-14 state budget.

State Assemblywoman Sandra Galef (D/Ossining) said statewide $436 million more than what was proposed by Governor Andrew Cuomo was approved by the state Legislature.

“We all advocated very hard for more school aid and I am excited that our goal was accomplished in this budget,” Galef said. “Providing the necessary educational tools through this increased state aid will assist in bringing individual success to our youth.”

Of the districts in Galef’s 95th Assembly District, Lakeland is getting the largest increase over this year by $2,666,577. Peekskill is also receiving a more than $2 million hike.

The other jumps in state aid are as follows: Carmel ($1.925 million); Ossining ($1.295 million); Hendrick Hudson ($1.118 million); Briarcliff Manor ($494,161); Croton Harmon ($486,595); Haldane ($241,862); Garrison ($98,128).
