It’s hard not to envy the grape-soaked palate of Bronxville resident Randall Restiano, whose formative beginnings in the wine industry (and as an enthusiastic imbiber) took root at county restaurants like neighborhood staple Il Bacio Trattoria in Bronxville, Westchester’s Haiku Asian Bistro restaurant group, and Yonkers’ venerable Zuppa Restaurant and Lounge.

As his passion grew, Restiano followed the call of the vine to roles as wine director at the likes of Bocca di Lupo in London, Eli’s W.I.N.E. & Taste (the famed Eli Zabar’s Third Avenue market restaurant), and the renowned, Michelin-rated Chef’s Table at Brooklyn Fare.

Today, Restiano has sniffed, swirled, and sipped his way to general manager of beverage at Eataly NYC Flatiron, the busiest Eataly location in the country where he oversees everything beverage throughout the establishment’s seven restaurants, retail market, quick-service counters, and wine shop. It’s a job that affords him the top buying role in all of Eataly North America.

So, how did the burgeoning passion of a Bronxville boy parlay itself into one of the most sought-after wine buying jobs in the country? We got Restiano to pop the cork on his journey and give us a taste of a typical day-in-the-life …which often leads to a nightcap.
