Business Profile: Salon O, Yorktown

Fishkill residents Lauren and Alexandra Olivieri have been a hair styling duo for years as Alexandra decided to follow in her mother’s professional footsteps.
The Olivieri’s decided to go out on their own and opened Salon O in May in Yorktown.
Lauren has been in the hair styling industry for about 40 years and her daughter has been in the business for about nine years.
“It’s the only thing I wanted to do since I was six,” Lauren said. “I liked things that pertained to beauty and styling and fashion. And I liked the social aspect of it.”
“I love anything having to do with beauty and fashion and just being creative,” Alexandra said. “You don’t feel like you’re working. You feel like you’re just having fun.”
The Olivieri’s have had a strong bond that has continued into their work. “We’ve worked together since I finished beauty school,” Alexandra said. “We’re actually like best friends. We do everything together.”
“We formerly worked in Somers and we wanted a location that was close enough for our existing clients to follow us,” Alexandra said. Another attraction of opening the business in Yorktown was it had a busy commercial downtown, Lauren said.
The salon is named after the first letter of the co-owners’ last name. Salon O’s customers come mainly from Somers, Yorktown and Katonah, as well as lower Westchester, Alexandra said.
The duo both manages their establishment and styles hair. Some of the services provided at Salon O include hair coloring, cutting, smoothing, styling, extensions, blow drying and highlighting. Salon O provides services for men and women, boys and girls.
Major renovations were done to the building, which was used as a variety of different businesses, over a period of about four months before Salon O could open. “We built it from head to toe,” Lauren said.
Alexandra said opening their own hair salon has been a dream for her mother and herself. “This is something that we always wanted to do,” she said. “We knew we would do this since I got out of school.”
“Our goals are to have a full running salon with a little family of people who we’re comfortable with,” Lauren said. “Fill the chairs, get busier and better known and just be a home away from home.”
