Kenny Hogan has been in the carpeting and flooring business for more than 40 years. “I didn’t go to college,” says Hogan, who got his start as an installer for the family carpeting business. “That wasn’t a thing that was really done in the 70s. Back then, you worked with your hands.”
In 1992, Kenny opened Kenny’s Carpet One Floor & Home in Carmel. The store carries a wide selection of carpet, vinyl, ceramic and porcelain tile, pre- and unfinished flooring, window treatment, area rugs, and laminate – everything you need to redo your home, whether you decide to do it yourself or have it installed by the folks at Kenny’s.
When you walk through the doors of Kenny’s Carpet One, you’ll be welcomed by a greeter who will get your information and ask questions in order to pinpoint what it is you’re looking for based on your needs and lifestyle.
Then, Kenny’s team of trusted installers, each one vetted and trained by Hogan himself, will come to your home to complete the project. “We’re going to do what you ask us to do, not convince you to pile on materials and services,” says Hogan.
“Ever hear the saying about going the extra mile?” Hogan continues. “Everyone thinks they do it, but not everybody does.”
For Hogan, that extra mile begins after the sale. “If you’re not happy, we don’t go away. We’re here until you’re happy with what we do.” In fact, Hogan’s reckons that he makes more money and garner’s more business based on what happens after the sale than he does on the sale itself.
That could mean reinstallation, replacing or restoring damaged or worn flooring, offering financing, or sharing maintenance tips and tricks on the company’s blog or social media accounts.
Kenny’s Carpet One is extremely active on social media, with accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and YouTube. “It’s an ongoing process for me because of my demographic,” says Hogan, who is in his late 50s, “but it allows us to make a wider range of people aware of us. I’m able to reach out to my customers’ kids who are all on social media.”
Getting the social media aspect is so important to Hogan that he’s hired someone to handle it for him. “I’m wise enough to know what I want but not tech savvy enough to know how to do it,” he confesses.
Another component of Hogan’s business operations that is near and dear to his heart is community service and involvement. Kenny’s Carpet One has attended community events, donated to local groups and charities, and celebrates its customers with special appreciation days at the store.
A true community-minded local business, Kenny’s and its employees support local businesses and encourage customers to do the same. “It’s getting harder to do the kind of community shopping I’m used to,” says Hogan. “It’s so very important that people support local business. It’s important that our money stays within the community in order to strengthen and improve it.
