WINTER STORM WARNING ISSUED FOR WHITE PLAINS

We are part of The Trust Project

Hamilton-Main and Chester-Maple Parking Garages Available to Residents for Overnight Parking

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for our area. Snowfall is expected to start after midnight tonight through Wednesdaymorning. It is expected to mix with and change to sleet and freezing rain laterWednesday. The National Weather Service is currently predicting total accumulations of 4 – 8 inches of snow plus ice accumulations of up to 1/2 inch. In addition, snow and ice on the roads is expected to make travel hazardous. Please limit your travel during this event to the greatest extent possible. Stay tuned to local media regarding up to date forecasts and current conditions.

City Public Works crews will be working through the night to clear the roads as quickly and completely as possible. In order to enable them to do their job it is important that vehicles not be left parked on the street. As a courtesy the City is offering free parking to White Plains residents for vehicles registered to addresses within the City of White Plains in the Hamilton-Main and Chester-Maple parking garages only starting at 7:00 PM this evening through 12:00 PM noon tomorrow, Wednesday, February 5th. Again, this provision applies to the Hamilton-Main and Chester-Maple garages only. All other garages, lots and on street parking will remain subject to normal enforcement. There will be strict enforcement of the City’s ban on  overnight on street parking, as vehicles left on the street severely impair our ability to clear snow and can create hazardous conditions.

The snow and ice may also impact overhead power lines. It is always a good idea to take common sense precautions ahead of a weather event, including having flashlights and extra batteries as well as bottled water handy. To report a power outage please call Con Ed at 1-800-75-CONED or go to their website, www.coned.com. Do not go near or attempt to move downed wires yourself.
