Westchester Police Academy Graduates 54 New Officers
Fifty-four police recruits graduated last week from the Westchester County Police Academy and are headed off to work at 10 departments in Westchester and nine other law enforcement agencies in the region.
The new officers, who completed 20 weeks of training at the police academy in Valhalla, received their diplomas during a ceremony Friday at the Performing Arts Center of the State University of New York at Purchase.
County Executive Robert P. Astorino and Public Safety Commissioner George N. Longworth addressed the graduates of the 134th class of Basic Police Recruits and wished them well in their careers.
Astorino congratulated the graduates for successfully completing the demanding academic curriculum and mastering the physical challenges they faced at the academy. The new officers, he said, received the training and skills needed to protect the communities they are sworn to serve.
“Westchester County takes great pride in the Police Academy and its reputation for excellence,” Astorino said. “The academy is a great model of a shared service that brings tremendous benefits to communities throughout Westchester. The county runs the Police Academy, but we could not complete the mission without the support and participation of all our police chiefs and departments. This great partnership and collaboration makes sense for our municipalities and for our taxpayers.”
Longworth welcomed the new police officers to the law enforcement community and said that many challenges were ahead.
“You are now part of the police family, and with that great privilege comes great responsibility. You will stand with your brother and sister officers in keeping the peace, enforcing the law, protecting the innocent and confronting evil and those who would do us harm,” he said.
The new officers and their departments in Westchester are: Eastchester, Anthony Barberan and Christopher Dura; Greenburgh, Anthony De Laurentiis and Peter Schmidt; Harrison, Anthony Conte, Augusto Corvino and Patrick Varbero, Lewisboro: David Alfano and Andrew Llewellyn; Mount Vernon, Pedro Abreu, Allison Allen, Nigel Butler, Janpierre Chavez, Michael Consilvio, David DiBenedetto, Jessie Ferreira, Baldwin Firpo, Michael Fox, James Hanlon, Frank Hrotko, Christopher Jones, Maria Pacino and George Vargas; Peekskill, Khalia Carter; Tarrytown, Matthew Garro and Hugo Medina; White Plains, Marc D’Annibale and Matthew Johnson; Yonkers, Frank DiDomizio Jr., Devin Larkin, Daniel Lopez, Kujtim Rugova and Stephanie Wadsworth.
