Sports Wrap-up: Alexander Girls Basketball Remains Undefeated

On Thursday afternoon the Alexander Hamilton Girls Basketball Team remained perfect. They hosted Maria Regina, which is located less than two miles away and the Red Raiders came away victorious 86-56 to stay undefeated.

The Red Raiders were playing without one of their top players who missed the game due to illness. Not to worry senior Maia Hood stepped up and had her best game of the 2012-2013 season. Hood dropped 42 points on Maria Regina, grabbed ten rebounds and dished out five assists.

Tiffany Corselli, the Red Raiders’ second leading scorer this season also had a very impressive game. She scored 36 points while also passing the ball with great efficiency to her teammates finishing with a total of 11 assists. The Red Raiders starting center added four points and grabbed five rebounds for her team in the victory.

Good Counsel

The Cougars had two games last week and they won one and lost the other. They fell to Spellman 66-35. They had a one-point lead at halftime but were outscored by Spellman 48-17 during the second half. The final score of the game was 66-36. Gaelle Desrouches and Johanna Levine led the Cougars in scoring with 10 points apiece. Tranisha Gumbs pulled down 10 rebounds and contributed six points.

Last week the Cougars beat Notre Dame 50-45. The Cougars struggled during the first half of play and were behind by seven points at halftime. Come the second half, the Cougars shots found the bottom of the basket more frequently as they went on to outscore their opponent 34-22. Levine led all scorers with 19 points and she also had five assists in the game. Asia St. Cloud and Amy Jeanty each finished with 10 points versus Notre Dame.

Sleepy Hollow 

Last week the Sleepy Hollow Horsemen defeated Pelham at home 48-35. Grace Carr was the leading scorer for the Horsemen with 14 points, nine rebounds, five blocks and five steals. Jenny Bucci had 13 points. Daniella Carissimo had 10 rebounds and five blocks. Dani Moretti had 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Pelicans.

Track and Field

White Plains Boys Track

Defending New York State triple jump champion Thomas Johnson won his second competition of the 2012-2013 season at the Rockland Coaches Invitational held at Rockland Community College last week. Jay Martin finished second in the 55-meter hurdles. Tyler Ford had a solid performance and ended up in fifth place in the 300-meter dash. Chris Cardon took seventh in the 1000-meter run. The Tigers 4 x 800 meter relay team finished seventh.

A few days later the Tigers took part in a Section 1 League 2B Championship meet at The Armory Track & Field Center in New York City. Johnson won the triple jump and the long jump competitions. Martin took third in the 55-meter hurdles and James McCormack finished fourth. In the 300 meter dash Ford took second place and Tyler Powell ended up in fourth. Cardon won both the 1600-meter and 3200-meter races.

White Plains Girls Track

Over the weekend the girls track team competed in the League 2B Championships. Madeline Smith finished third in the 1500-meter race walk. In the 600-meter dash Lauren Woods took second and Rachel Okun third. Liza Gellerman took fourth place in the 3000-meter run. Nina Tucker took second in the high jump and fifth in the long jump.
