The Somers Town Board has yet to decide if it will replace former Councilman Harry Bolton but is planning to meet with potential replacements.

The Somers Town Board has not decided whether to replace former Councilman Harry Bolton, but is planning to interview potential interim replacements.

Bolton resigned from the town board in March, citing health problems.

Last month, Bolton said he had a virus that attached his heart muscle. “I am on a lot of medicines but my blood pressure is not going down,” he said. “Being on the town board is too stressful.”

Bolton was elected in 2009. His four-year term is scheduled to end on Dec. 31, 2013.

Following the April 12 town board meeting, Supervisor Mary Beth Murphy said she and her colleagues had not determined if Boltonwould be replaced. The board has received interest in filling the open seat from a “handful” of residents, Murphy said.

“We may want to appoint someone not interested in running” for the final year ofBolton’s term, Murphy said. Should the town board agree to fill the vacant seat, candidates for the last year inBolton’s term would need to run on Election Day this November, Murphy said.
