With 100 percent of precincts reporting, Michael Smith holds a 51-49 percent lead over incumbent John Nonna.

Michael Smith is expected to be District 3’s new county legislator.

With 100 percent of the precincts reporting, Smith, a Greenburgh resident, leads incumbent John Nonna (D-Pleasantville) 51 percent to 49 percent, 5063 votes to 4940.

With absentee ballots yet to be counted, and reports of malfunctioning machines, Nonna has declined to concede until the official results are in. He said he expects the race to be finalized next week.

“I don’t foresee a long and drawn out process,” Nonna said. “Hopefully this will be resolved sooner or later.”

Nonna said he was not surprised at how close the election was. A Nonna loss would end the Democrats supermajority in the county legislature, which was a major theme of Smith’s campaign.

Smith did not respond to repeated requests for comment. District 3 covers Pleasantville, Mount Pleasant, North Castle and portions of Greenburgh.
