Let me start with a vexing issue our communities have been wrestling with for more than a generation now, one that seems to grow in severity with each passing year: a shortage of volunteers. Especially young adults. The problem has reached crisis proportions and the implications are concerning. But Westchester County has introduced a new incentive to entice community members to serve. All right, you have to hear what’s going on at the hottest post-pandemic spot in Pleasantville. Examiner freelance writer Brian Kluepfel checks in with Rob Catalano, the manager of Lucy’s. For you high school sports fans, I’m putting little a pin in this column by Examiner Sports Editor Ray Gallagher. Local lax heads know Yorktown is a powerhouse. But it’s been a head-spinning three-straight Section 1 championship losses for the 40-time (not a typo) Section 1 kings. But first-year head coach Tim Schurr is hoping to end the uncharacteristic dry spell for his alma mater this spring. And no one on the planet knows Section 1 better than local legend Ray Gallagher with his special and inimitable gift of local sports gab. This next Examiner reading pick is a tad random but also a cool little nugget, I think. Hudson Highland residents Barry and Mary Jean (MJ) Ross recently donated their Hudson River postcard collection to the Putnam History Museum. Last but not least, my bonus non-Examiner read of the day. I’ve always loved The Ethicist section in the NYT Mag. It forces us readers to ask really tough questions of ourselves and calibrate our moral compasses. I thought this week’s installment was particularly thought-provoking.
