Any extra space that a family could find, especially during COVID, was a welcome respite for all who inhabit a house.
This Scarsdale family was able to renovate their finished basement with the help of local designer Lara Michelle of Lara Michelle Interiors to make it more stylish and functional.
The Challenges
“The goals were to have a fabulous play space and TV lounging area with lots of great storage,” says Lara Michelle. To fulfill the storage requirement, she added all-new custom built-ins. “This was a little tricky because the basement had lots of support beams dotted around the room and strange angles to deal with.”
To work around this, the team moved ductwork to the periphery of the room to create a more consistent ceiling height and to eliminate having so many soffits.
The clients also requested an in-home gym with large windows so they can keep an eye on the kids while working out. Not only did this basement reno give the children a large play area, but it is also a place to kick back and watch TV, as well as work out making it a win, win, win for everyone in the home.
