Former county legislator MaryEllen Odell received the endorsement of the Putnam County Republican Committee in her run for county executive, along with District Attorney Adam Levy, District 3 Legislator Rich Othmer and District 8 Legislator Dini LoBue. All were unopposed for the endorsements.

Odell, who served on the legislature in District 5 from 2006 to 2010, ran last year for county executive but lost to former state senator Vincent Leibell.

“She has the experience under her belt,” Putnam County GOP Chair Jim DiBella said. “She understands county government. I think she brings a fresh new perspective.”

So far, Odell is the only declared candidate, though candidates cannot start collecting signatures until June so there is still time for other contenders to emerge.

Levy, elected in 2007, and Othmer and LoBue, elected in 2008, are both seeking their second terms.

Approximately a month after being elected, Leibell announced he would not be taking office and later pleaded guilty to felony corruption charges. County Executive Paul Eldridge was picked by the legislature to fill a one-year term.
