Veteran educator Dr. Robert Hendrickson has been chosen to be the permanent principal of Westlake Middle School.

The Mount Pleasant Board of Education voted unanimously on June 13 to appoint Hendrickson, who has been serving as interim principal this year.

Hendrickson, a White Plains resident who started his education career in 1970, has worked at a variety of different districts. Locally, he has served as Fox Lane High School’s principal and an interim stint at Pleasantville High School.

Hendrickson said the residents of the school district are supportive of quality education and is looking to make sure that continues.

“The programs we offer our students are good ones,” Hendrickson said. “The district has a lot going for it.”

Hendrickson will be paid $30,000 from July 1 through Dec. 31 because he as a retiree under the state Teachers Retirement System his salary is limited. He will receive $126,493 from Jan. 1 through June 30, 2013, after he reaches an agreement with the Mount Pleasant Administrators’ Association and is no longer subject to retiree restrictions in the Retirement and Social Security Law.
