The undersigned are politically active Democrats in Congressional District 17 who are publicly requesting that Mr. Mondaire Jones, who previously represented the district in Congress, run again in 2024.

Mondaire Jones was raised by a single mother who worked multiple jobs in Section 8 housing in Spring Valley, Rockland County. From those humble beginnings, Mondaire’s rise was meteoric. Stanford for college, Harvard Law, a prestigious clerkship with a federal judge followed by five years as a lawyer (split between a prestigious New York City law firm and the Westchester County Law Department) and then his election to Congress in his early 30s. His story is the embodiment of the American dream.

In Congress, he was a rising star. He was elected unanimously as freshman representative to the House Democratic Leadership and appointed a deputy whip of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and co-chair of the LGBTQ Equality Caucus. He served on the House Judiciary, Education and Labor and Ethics committees, where he had established himself as a leader on issues of democracy reform, civil rights, child care and climate. In 2021, Axios rated Mondaire the most active freshman member of Congress.

But this rising star kept his feet on the ground. He was in constant contact with his constituents, coming to events and making appearances and, most importantly, listening to voters’ problems and concerns. We were lucky to have him as our congressman and disappointed that circumstances prevented him from running for re-election in Congressional District 17 in 2022.

We strongly encourage Mr. Jones to run for his seat in 2024. Come home Mondaire!
