I am writing to voice my unwavering support for Kathy Kahng, the ideal candidate for Putnam County legislator in District 3.

I’ve had the experience of volunteering with Kahng on the Kent Conservation Advisory Committee’s Climate Smart Task Force. Kahng’s accomplishments in Putnam County are a testament to her commitment to serving our community. Her extensive involvement with volunteer groups and various committees within the Town of Kent underscores her dedication to addressing the issues that matter most to us. Her involvement with organizations such as chair of the Town of Kent Stormwater, Kent Lakes Committee, Kent Climate Smart Committee and many others demonstrates her commitment to making a positive impact.

Some town residents have expressed concerns about Kahng’s dual residency in New York City. However, it is crucial to recognize that Kathy’s city experience is an asset, not a liability. Her time in the city has provided her with invaluable insights into complex urban issues and innovative solutions that can be adapted to benefit our small town. Rather than seeing her connection to New York City as a drawback, we should view it as a unique strength that can help us tackle our local challenges more effectively.

Kahng’s professional background is versatile and highly adaptable to the demands of the Putnam County Legislature. Her experience as a small business owner and her work with various public and private sector organizations give her a comprehensive understanding of the intricacies of our local economy. Her contract with the New York City Department of Sanitation to implement a Smart Compost Pilot Program in Astoria, Queens, is a testament to her ability to manage projects that have a direct and positive impact on the environment.

Kahng’s focus on critical issues such as clean drinking water, addressing health threats posed by PFAS in our groundwater and promoting high-efficiency septic systems aligns with the urgent needs of our community. Her determination to work closely with state agencies like the state Department of Environmental Conservation and New York City Department of Environmental Protection to protect our drinking water and the city’s watershed demonstrates her dedication to our well-being.

Furthermore, her vision of collaborating with all six towns in Putnam County to secure NY Forward Downtown Revitalization Initiative grants show her commitment to reviving our local economies and enhancing our communities.

I strongly urge the residents of Kent and Patterson to vote for Kathy Kahng as our Putnam County legislator. Her proven track record, diverse experiences and unwavering dedication to our community make her the ideal choice to represent our district’s interests. Let’s seize this opportunity to elect a candidate who has the knowledge and passion to bring positive change to our beloved towns.
