The Harrison High volleyball team was hoping to avenge an earlier, close loss to Byram Hills when the two teams met again last Thursday in Armonk.

But the Bobcats again found a way to prevail, coming up with a 3-2 win over the Huskies in a league meeting at Byram Hills High School. Harrison also posted a 3-1 win over Scarsdale last Friday, and closed the week at 11-4 overall, 8-4 in league play.

Last Thursday the Huskies fell to the Bobcats in five, 27-29, 25-17, 25-22, 23-25, 25-23.

Harrison had this one circled on the calendar, hoping for payback, but despite playing well, the Huskies came up short.

“We knew going in they had a great defensive team,” Huskies coach Candy Light said. “They beat us the first time, so we worked on trying to place our shots more strategically, and the girls did a very good job doing that. We had a lot of digs, and we got good play off of passes.”

For Harrison, Sydney Woolf had 28 digs, Valerie Sprovieri had 19 kills, two aces and five blocks, Rose Stokoe added three kills, 35 assists, 28 digs and two blocks, and Maxine Lieblich came up with seven kills and 19 digs.

“The girls did a great job of staying focused,” Light said. “They did a great job of working their way back into the match… there were a lot of ups and downs.”

In Friday’s win over Scarsdale, the Huskies prevailed in four sets, 25-19, 25-7, 20-25, 25-8.

Kayla DiMartini delivered six kills and three digs, Taylor day added seven aces, seven digs, three kills and a block, Lieblich had 21 digs and three kills, and Stokoe was solid with 19 assists and 14 digs.

“Coming off of the Byram Hills match, I think the girls pulled together and played really well. The entire team was on the floor, which was nice, so everyone was able to contribute.”

Harrison faces New Rochelle on the road today (Tuesday) at 4:30, and the Huskies are at Greeley Thursday for a 4:30 p.m. match.
