Get Fit White Plains! Program Free 5K Family Fun Run and Walk Sunday

We are part of The Trust Project

The City of White Plains, along with Forme´ Urgent Care and Wellness Center, is leading the way towards better health this spring with Get Fit White Plains! Charity Miles Program, a citywide, month-long effort aimed at jump starting residents fitness routines while at the same time raising funds for charity.

The Program begins with a Free 5K Family Fun Run and Walk on Sunday, May 4, 9 a.m., at the Highlands Middle School, Parker Track (rain or shine). On-site registration begins at 8:15 a.m. The 5K will feature a festive, family-friendly atmosphere with music, face painters, balloons, raffles, vendors and free t-shirts (while supplies last). Certified instructors of the White Plains YMCA will lead a dynamic warm-up. Following the 5K, which can be run and/or walked at your own pace, there will be a free raffle featuring items donated from Life Time Athletics, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Sofos Chiropractic Care, Big Apple Smoothie and Forme´ Urgent Care and Wellness Center.

Refreshments at the event are being supplied by Whole Foods. Additional sponsors of the Get Fit White Plains! Charity Miles program include the White Plains YMCA, YWCA of White Plains, Danny’s Cycles, Trader Joe’s, Barnum Financial Group, Dannon, Strata Health, Cycleworks and the Juneteenth Heritage Committee. Additional activities and programs will be offered throughout the City from May 4 to June 8.

How do my efforts to get fit help charity, you ask? Here’s how it works: The City of White Plains has created its own team (“#white plains”) on the Smartphone App known as Charity Miles. The App allows you to log your mileage while walking, running or biking. Each mile that is logged raises money for charity.

Funds earned through exercise can be directed to the following charities as you choose: Team RWB, Wounded Warrior Project, Every Mother Counts, Girls on the Run, Shot@ Life, The World Food Programme, Nothing But Nets, The Partnership for a Healthier America, Feeding America, RED, Stand Up to Cancer, ASPCA, Autism Speaks, Habitat for Humanity, Alzheimer’s Association, The Nature Conservancy, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, The Michael J. Fox Foundation, DoSomething.org, Pencils of Promise, Soles4Souls, Special Olympics, She’s the First, Vision Spring, Crohn & Colitis Foundation of America, Achilles International and the Ironman Foundation.

Download the Charity Miles App at no charge. Charity Miles will donate on your behalf to the charity you select. Bikers will earn $1 for every 10 miles and walkers/ runners earn $1 for every 4 miles logged. To get started “Burning and Earning” for Team #White Plains using a smartphone go to your app store and locate Charity Miles. Download the app and register.
