This past Thursday the White Plains Lady Tigers had a very special visitor watching them practice. It was Scott Brooks, current head coach of the Oklahoma City Thunder and former NBA player. Brooks had an 11-year playing career in the NBA including a stint with the Knicks.

Lady Tigers head coach Sue Adams explains how Brooks ended up coming to see her team practice this past Thursday.

“Isabella Lacarbonara’s father is very good friends with Scott Brooks,” said Adams. “He had e-mailed me during the week and asked me if it would be okay if he came to practice and watched. I said yes and if we had time could he talk to the girls afterwards. I said absolutely. That’s how it got set up.”

Adams said Brooks shared his journey through the NBA with her players.

“He watched our practice for an hour and he told the girls he was impressed with what he saw from the coaches and what he saw from the girls. How they were listening, how they were responding and how they were executing the drills,” said Adams. “He really complimented them on the way they were practicing. He also talked about his coaching experience, how his favorite player was Kevin Durant. Just talked a little about life in the NBA.”
Brooks took some questions from the Tigers and Adams thinks that this interaction had a very positive effect on her players.

“I think a really great question that was asked of him is by Sofia Roman: What do you want in a point guard. I thought he gave her some really good answers,” said Adams. “The point guard is an extension of the coach. The point guard and the coach have to be on the same wavelength. The point guard needs to be a leader on the floor and I thought when she asked that question I knew Sofia would take a lot of that to heart. I think it showed today on the floor. “

For the record it should be noted a day later the Lady Tigers played their best game of their season so far, beating Scarsdale 50-29. Brooks and his Oklahoma City Thunder also took care of business over the weekend. The Thunder won 84-74 against the New Jersey Nets on Saturday.
