Forever Young Singers is looking for members.

White Plains Recreation and Parks has created a new singing group, the Forever Young Singers, to perform at various local events.

If you are interested in joining the group, the only requirements are that you love music, love to sing and are 18 years or older. There is no cost to participate and formal training is not required.

Sia Tofano, Director of the White Plains Community Center created the group and will act as facilitator. “This is a cross generational program,” Tofano told The White Plains Examiner in an interview. “Music brings people together and generates joy and positiveness for the community. It brings the creative side out that most people don’t realize they have.”

Tofano, who is a music therapist, says there will be no auditions. People will just come together and sing. “We will see what happens, Tofano says. “We will try various vocal styles and types of music, and the singers will be able to propose music they enjoy. The songs will be performed at city events and concerts in the parks. The first event we will perform at is the tree lighting, so we have about five or  six weeks to prepare. The music will be secular holiday music.”

Rehearsals begin Tuesday, October 9, and will be held each Tuesday after that. The sessions run from 9:45 to 11:30 a.m. and take place at the White Plains Community Center at 65 Mitchell Place.

If you are interested in joining you can sign up on Tuesday or call Tofano at 914-422-1423.
