Excell Print and Promotions

Over the 13-year period that David Quas has spent in the commercial printing business, some might say the industry has been turned on its head. What used to take hours now takes minutes and printing these days is increasingly done in-house on a network.

But that hasn’t stopped Quas from pursuing his passion for professional printing through Excell Print and Promotions, a company he founded in 2000. The decision to incorporate design, print and promotional products into what Quas calls the “print marketing triangle” has kept this White Plains business steadily growing.

Quas got his feet wet as a print production specialist at a Westchester printing company. While there, he also learned a lot about graphic design, including software design programs like InDesign, Illustrator, QuarkXpress, and PhotoShop. In 1997, he found himself working at Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES, where he was involved in the printing of newsletters and other publications for the organization’s 18 component school districts.

When Quas first started out, he handled mostly print jobs, such as business cards, letterhead, brochures, and the like. When customers asked if he could create company pens, mugs and other promotional items, Quas felt it was the perfect opportunity to merge promotional merchandising with the traditional print service he’d been offering all along.

Working with companies both large and small, Quas’s clients can order anything from athletic apparel to car magnets, door hangers, t-shirts, stickers, and more.

“The great thing about using promotional products is the fact that they really enhance a company’s brand recognition,” said Quas, who offers customers a choice of more than 600,000 promotional items from product suppliers nationwide.

Quas said such products serve as a constant reminder of one’s business, in addition to being clever marketing tools. Quas’s design team can create artwork from scratch or they can work with custom designs, he explained.

On the more traditional end, Quas uses state-of-the-art technology to produce quality marketing materials. In addition to the traditional business cards that many customers ask for, Quas also offers greeting cards, postcards for business promotion, even banners that come in a variety of shapes and sizes.

Quas works with both corporate clients and with non-profit groups, such as schools and local charities. In fact, he is a firm believer in giving back to organizations in need. Recently, he partnered with the Ryan McElroy Children’s Cancer Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Pawling, founded by the family of Ryan McElroy, who died of cancer before his fifth birthday. Quas also promotes cause awareness through his other work with New Horizons Resources, Inc., a not-for-profit agency that provides services to children and adults who have developmental disabilities.

“I truly believe that working and giving back to our local non-profit organizations can make a huge difference,” said Quas. “In the end, they become loyal supporters of the business.”

With local competition to contend with, in addition to the many promotional product offerings consumers can get online, Quas could easily be intimidated. Not so for this Somers resident. “I firmly believe that our progress is due to the fact that our prices are very competitive and we provide quality that is second to none,” said Quas. “In other words, we do whatever it takes to make the client happy.”
