Enoch Crosby Chapter of DAR Offers Scholarship Opportunity for Putnam Students

We are part of The Trust Project

The Enoch Crosby Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution has always been a champion of excellence.  This year, as in 2012, the Chapter will offer three $500 Scholarships to graduating seniors in Putnam County who excel in the areas of academics, leadership and volunteerism.

The Enoch Crosby Scholarship, awarded to college bound students in public, private or accredited home school programs, was founded to reward those young people who strive for excellence in their own lives.  Last year’s winners, 2 from Brewster High School and 1 from Mahopac High School, were among 17 exceptionally qualified applicants.  These applicants represented Carmel, Brewster, Mahopac, Haldane and  home school programs.

Fueled by the Chapter’s Annual Fundraiser “Celebrate the Jewels of Putnam County” the Enoch Crosby Scholarship is truly a community effort.  Restaurants like Bliss Dairy Bar, who donated 16 pancake breakfasts and the opportunity to create a menu item and Ramiro’s Latin Bistro, offering a chef for the evening in one’s own home, to community leaders like Dr. Larry Maxwell, who donated the chance to live as a Colonial in an authentic Reenactment, have made this scholarship possible.

“The Enoch Crosby Chapter is so thankful for the support of all its donors and attendees.” said Regent and Chairperson, Jenny Malara.  “We can only do so much without the community to back us up, and it’s so gratifying to see the enthusiasm of all the participants!”

Donors are among those establishments and individuals designated as “Jewels” by the women of the Enoch Crosby Chapter.  These “Jewels” have been awarded this distinction for their unique contributions to our community in making Putnam County a wonderful place to live.

Qualified students, those who are currently college bound seniors attending a High School Program in Putnam County, can obtain an application packet through their high school counselor or by visiting the “Celebrate the Jewels of Putnam County” website:  www.jewelsofpc.org and clicking on Scholarship Application to the left.  You may also contact Jenny Malara at jgmalara@aol.com for more information about this and other DAR activities.
