Eldridge Unanimously Appointed County Executive

We are part of The Trust Project

For the first time in two decades, Putnam has a new county executive. The Putnam County Legislature unanimously appointed Paul Eldridge, who served as personnel director for 33 years, on Saturday afternoon.
Eldridge was sworn in by Bob Bondi, who held the position for 20 years. Former state senator Vincent Leibell had been elected to the position but last month pled guilty to felony charges of tax evasion and obstruction of justice and told county officials he would not take office. Eldridge will serve as county executive this year, while voters will choose who fills out the remainder of the four-year term.
Eldridge said he would not run for the position, but said the county couldn’t afford to “tread water” this year.
