An elderly man was found dead early Friday afternoon on Ross Street in White Plains, the victim of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

The man, whose identity has not yet been released, was found under a tree on the residential roadway near the intersection of Warren Street by a passing citizen, according to White Plains Police Lt. Eric Fischer. The man is believed to be a White Plains resident.

Police are not releasing the man’s identity or any further information until next of kin have been notified, Fischer said.
