According to The Journal News, the victim was identified as 8th grader Jenna Nolan, though authorities did not officially release a name. In a press release, Carmel Police chief Michael Cazzari stated emergency responders arrived at Mahopac Point at about 1:04 p.m., in search of a swimmer that was unaccounted for. After a search got underway, officers eventually located an adolescent female victim.

The victim was removed from the water “unconscious and unresponsive” according to Cazzari and rushed to Putnam Hospital Center by ambulance. She was pronounced dead shorty after 2 p.m.

In addition to the Carmel Police, the Mahopac Fire Department, the Mahopac Falls Fire Department and the Putnam Sheriff’s Marine Unit all were part of the search, according to the release. More details would be made available when possible, Cazzari stated in the release.
