Business Profile: Salon V, Mohegan Lake
Salon V may have recently moved from Mahopac to MoheganLake, but its family tradition has not changed.
Gina Martucci, who resides in Mahopac, co-owns Salon V along with her mother, Dena Vitale, who also lives in Mahopac.
The name of the establishment is based on the first letter of the last name of the Vitale family, Martucci said, noting that Martucci is her married last name.
Salon V was moved from Mahopac to MoheganLake about two months ago. The Mahopac salon was known as Hair by Dena and was in operation for nearly 15 years. “We were just in Mahopac for a very long time and we wanted to choose someplace different but not too far for our Mahopac clients,” Martucci said. “We always liked this location. We liked being next door to a nail salon and Dunkin’ Donuts “
Salon V works with men, women and children, Martucci said. Some of its services include hair cutting coloring, and straightening; as well as make up, she said. “We’re a Redken Concept Salon,” she said. “That means all of my products and hair color are Redken.”
Another feature of Salon V is its Color Bar. About 90 percent of her customers have their hair colored, Martucci said. “So we really wanted to showcase our color and all the different colors we have.”
Salon V offers “Blow Out Packages” in which customers can purchase blow dry packages at a discount.
Martucci and her mother also work at Salon V three days a week. ”When she’s here, I’m not and vice versa,” Martucci noted.
Martucci has been working with her mother since she was a youth. “I always liked it,” she said. “I worked in the former salon in Mahopac since I was about 14. So I grew up in it.”
She said it took a great deal of effort to renovate the roughly 1,600-square-foot structure that now houses Salon V. “It was a deli. When we came in there was no floor, no nothing. We really started from the ground up,” she said, noting the renovations took about five months to complete.
Martucci and her mother are continuing their dedication to local residents in their new location. “We’ve done a lot of fund-raisers in the past with the American Cancer Society, the breast cancer Relay for Life, (and) Autism Speaks,” she said.
The family also donates its services to the Women’s ResourceCenter and prizes for school fund-raisers.
“We’re big believers in keeping everything in the community. So we just like to give back to the community,” Martucci said.
