Business Profile: Plaza Hair, Mount Kisco

We are part of The Trust Project

While hair stylists Lawrence Cesare and Enzo Morales offer all the same resources you’ll find in other Mount Kisco hair salons, it’s the service, warmth and friendly atmosphere at Plaza Hair Salon that sets it apart.

Cesare, a New York City native, and Morales, who comes from Argentina, have been in business in Mount Kisco for 35 years, starting out in a salon above The Elephant’s Trunk, then moving to another Main Street location before relocating to their current home on Kirby Plaza.

Both men have a wealth of hairstyling experience. Cesare studied under the late Vidal Sassoon. He also studied with the colorist who worked on Barbara Walters and the late Jacqueline Kennedy’s hair.

Morales worked in Manhattan and Forest Hills, Queens salons before arriving in Westchester and also has a storied career. He was among the first to collaborate with hairstylist Paul Mitchell in the 1980s on international beauty shows.

Today, Plaza Hair uses a multitude of products under the John Paul Mitchell Systems hair care line. They also work with other well known products like Goldwell, Sebastian and Wella.

The Forest Hills salon where Morales worked was also a great training ground for him. It was there he attained expertise in Sassoon’s legendary cutting techniques. While the revolutionary Sassoon cut was a boon for women of the 1960s because they no longer had to make weekly visits to the salon, the fact that customers could maintain their own hairstyles was a detriment at first, Morales noted

Since then, the hair styling industry has transformed itself. The partners at Plaza Hair are eager to remain at the cutting edge of it all. Continuously attending training seminars to keep their skills up to date, Cesare and Morales offer all the latest styles and trends to their customers.

“While we like to offer a variety of services, right now we’re finding that hair straightening is very popular,” Cesare said.

In addition, customers can choose from an array of other services, including basic hair coloring, highlights/lowlights using dimensional and corrective color techniques and hair extensions.

Customers may not be aware that Cesare is also an expert in styling wigs and men’s hair pieces. Cesare said that when styling a wig, face shape and the customer’s desired hair style should be kept in mind. The wig’s cutting, shaping and styling gives it a more natural look, he said.

Along with the ever-evolving hairstyles, Cesare and Morales are cognizant of the need for good customer service.

“You have to listen to what the client wants these days,” Morales said. “And then make suggestions for improvement.”

Most of Plaza Hair Salon’s long-standing customers are more than happy to remain with this friendly team. Morales said they usually don’t come for the kind of frills that other salons might offer.

“They come here for what they want, which is good hair service,” he said.

Plaza Hair Salon is located at 7 Kirby Plaza. The salon is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Fridays. To make an appointment, call 914-666-5776.
