Business Council of Westchester Appointed Affordable Care Act Navigator

We are part of The Trust Project

The Business Council of Westchester (BCW) has been selected by the Community Service Society of New York (CSS) to serve as a “Navigator” to assist Westchester businesses in complying with the nation’s new healthcare policy.

Enrollment in the New York Health Benefits Exchange begins October 1. Although businesses with more than 50 employees were recently granted a full year extension that gives them until January 1, 2015, the vast majority of New Yorkers will see their changes take effect as scheduled on January 1, 2014.

Under requirements of the ACA, states must set up a health insurance exchange where individuals and businesses can shop for qualified health plans in the private market. The BCW is a subcontractor to the CSS, the nonprofit organization that has been awarded a grant by the New York State Department of Health to provide in-person assistance and navigators at 350 sites in 61 counties statewide.

“This is the next step in the introduction of the ACA,” said John Ravitz, Executive Vice President of the BCW and point person for its healthcare outreach initiative. “We are inviting businesses for one-on-one sessions that will distill the specific details of the exchange and explain additional information as it becomes available from Albany and Washington.”

On October 10, the BCW will host a Healthcare Summit at the Crowne Plaza, 66 Hale Avenue in White Plains. Bloomberg News Healthcare Reporter Shannon Pettypiece will offer observations on the reactions of businesses nationally as they prepare for the ACA, and New York State healthcare decision makers including Danielle Holahan, Deputy Director of the New York State Health Benefit Exchange, will lead a panel discussion with other experts.
