Artwork of Fulmar Road School Students on Display at Library

We are part of The Trust Project
Polar Bear by Blake Cheung

Artwork created by 76 Fulmar Road Elementary School students in the Mahopac School District is currently on display in the Young Arts Gallery at Mahopac Public Library.

Snowmen, Penguin Chicks, Polar Bears, and more adorn the gallery with expressive faces and bright colors. Under the direction of their art teacher, Ms. Melissa Lindsay, the students have created imaginative paintings and collages that are as unique as the students themselves. The works will remain on display through the month of January and can be viewed during regular Library hours.

Each grade was assigned a different project in their art class. The kindergarteners were inspired by the book ‘How to Catch a Snowman’ and created snowpeople using cut out circle shapes, watercolor and markers; some are dressed for winter with hats and scarves, and, in one case, an eye patch! First graders learned about Emperor Penguins, the tallest and heaviest of all living penguin species.

Polar Bears, the biggest land carnivores in the world, are featured in the work by the second graders. The third graders learned about geodes, which are rock structures lined with mineral materials. Fulmar Road’s fourth graders used cutout shapes, glitter, and paint to create this iconic item that is now more than 50 years old!

Snowman by Salvatore Ruffino

The fifth graders completed two interesting projects: Robert Indiana Inspired Block Word art, and Tamagotchi Pixel art. Indiana was an American artist who was part of the pop art movement.
